Vioxx Lawsuits Stack Up

Next week representitives of Merck and the FDA will be on Capitol Hill to answer safety questions about Vioxx. Vioxx was a blockbuster drug for Merck with a very successful advertising campaign, even larger than Pepsi. Six weeks after being pilled of the market we are now seeing Vioxx in a different type of commercial. Law firms throughout the country are advertising specifically for Vioxx cases. About 300 attorneys convened at the Ritz Carlton Hotel in Pasadena to discuss Vioxx litigation. Some Law firms have up to 300 Vioxx cases so far and are sure to multiply. Some experts estimate that the Vioxx lawsuits could cost more Merck than 12 Billion Dollars.

Merck maintains that they acted responsibly every step of the way with Vioxx. Some attorneys maintain that the company should have acted years ago when a clinical trial showed that patients taking Vioxx had 4-5 times more heart attacks tha patients taking Naproxin.
